| For romantics and artists, the most perfect place to stay in Crete would have to be this picturesque village of old stone houses and silver-grey olive groves set against a dramatic backcloth of craggy mountains. The trouble with such settings is that usually the only accommodation available is just a shade too primitive to be relaxing, except for the ultra-bohemian, which is why we are delighted to be featuring the Marielena Houses. Accommodation of such quality and comfort is rarely combined with such a splendid situation as Marielena’s, where nine detached houses are set in adjacent tranquil gardens, on the edge of a delightful hamlet behind which the stunning White Mountains shimmer. Marielena’s seclusion is enough to make the most over-stressed city dweller unwind, even without the exquisite swimming pools, which are as breathtaking as the stunning scenery behind it. The only thing that might disturb your peace is the sound of revellers celebrating a wedding at the local taverna. The owners, Manolis and Sophia, have put every care into the building and furnishing of these extremely comfortable houses which have the added benefit of air-conditioning in the bedrooms. Manolis and Sophia are justly proud of their accommodation and are always on hand to ensure that the guests are well looked after. What makes Marielena Houses extra special, however, is the genuine hospitality that awaits every guest, for whilst your hosts are not at all intrusive, they will certainly make you feel very welcome |
Accommodation: There are five one-bedroom villas set together around a shared pool and four two-bedroom villas, with their own shared pool, grounds and entrance (the fourth two-bedroom is being added for 2004). Each one has a spacious sitting room with an open fireplace, a pull-out divan and a telephone, an extremely well-fitted kitchenette supplied with mini-oven, toaster and coffee maker, a shower room and a double or twin bedroom (the two-bedroom villas have both). Each one also has splendid mountain views both from the bedroom and from the covered veranda. In addition to the villas, we are also able to offer an apartment located on the upper floor of Manolis’ house, which has the same interior features as the villas and shares the pool with the one-bedroom villas. |
