| Villa Anastasia offers some of the most stylish accommodation we have seen on the island: the beautiful interiors would not look out of place in a glossy interior design magazine, yet the traditional feel of this renovated old stone house has not been lost, but enhanced and embellished by Anastasia, the owner who has created this wonderful retreat. Located in the quiet village of Prines, about 8km from the bustling town of Rethimnon with its pretty Venetian harbour and numerous shops and tavernas, Villa Anastasia is a pretty mellow stone-built house, with its own garden and lovely private swimming pool. Inside, the thick stone walls (half a metre thick in most places) keep the interiors lovely and cool, and all the materials that have been used in the house are natural, from the stone of the walls to the hand-crocheted curtains and embroidered bedcovers used in the bedrooms. Throughout, the walls show the light yellow exposed stone, giving the interiors a bright glow when the sunlight shines though the window. There are pretty prints, colourful throws and iron bedsteads in some of the bedrooms, plus decorative stone alcoves containing carefully chosen ornaments. |
Accommodation: The open plan living-kitchen area, has comfy sofas and a corner chimney plus a well-equipped kitchen to one side. Wooden stairs lead up from the lounge into the wooden eaves of the house to the main double bedroom, with wooden floors and pretty rugs, plus a shower room with an attractive scallop-edged sink. Outside, there is a paved terrace, and a few steps down from here, just in front of the olive grove is the wonderful pool area, with umbrellas and sunloungers around it. |
